Step-by-Step Instructions for Tex Mex Poutine
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and spread the frozen crinkle-cut French fries evenly on a baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through until they are golden brown and crispy.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the lean ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Brown the beef for about 5-7 minutes until fully cooked.
  3. Stir in the sliced yellow onion to the browned beef, cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion softens. Sprinkle in the taco seasoning and mix well, allowing the spices to infuse for another 2 minutes.
  4. In a separate saucepan, combine the brown gravy mix with recommended water over medium heat. Whisk until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Once thickened, add a bit of water to the beef mixture and mix in the warmed gravy. Simmer for 5 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  6. Once the fries are crispy, remove from the oven and layer them with the beef mixture in a serving dish. Sprinkle the Tex Mex grated cheese on top.
  7. Drizzle the warm gravy over the assembled fries, beef, and melted cheese. Serve immediately.
