Dough
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour try whole wheat for a healthier twist
  • 1 tbsp Sugar can be substituted with honey or agave
  • 1 tsp Salt enhances flavor
  • 1 tbsp Active Dry Yeast ensure it's fresh
  • 1 cup Warm Water (105-115°F) for activating yeast
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil adds flavor and moisture
Toppings
  • 1 lb Italian Sausage substitute with vegetarian sausage if preferred
  • 1 medium Red Onion swap with shallots for a milder taste
  • 2 cloves Garlic freshly minced is best
  • 4 oz Feta Cheese goat cheese can be a delightful alternative
  • 2 tbsp Honey maple syrup is a great substitute
  • 1 cup Fresh Basil Leaves or oregano for an herbal note
  • 1/2 tsp Red Pepper Flakes optional for heat

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Allow it to froth for 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt, then pour in the yeast mixture with olive oil. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Flour a clean surface and knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and slightly tacky.
  4. Lightly grease a bowl, place the dough inside, and let it rise covered in a warm area for 1-1.5 hours.
Filling and Baking
  1. Cook the Italian sausage in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Add red onion and garlic, stir until softened.
  2. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a pizza stone inside if using.
  3. Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a 12-inch circle, and lightly brush with olive oil.
  4. Spread the sausage mixture and crumbled feta cheese evenly over the dough.
  5. Transfer the pizza to the hot stone or baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  6. Drizzle honey over the baked pizza and top with fresh basil. Allow it to cool slightly before slicing.
