Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by thinly slicing the yellow onions. In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-low heat. Add the onions along with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally for 25-30 minutes, allowing the onions to caramelize until they are deep golden brown and incredibly fragrant.
  2. While the onions are caramelizing, combine 1½ pounds of ground beef with 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder and onion powder, 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika, and ½ teaspoon of black pepper. Gently mix the ingredients until just combined.
  3. Once the onions have cooled slightly, transfer them to a mixing bowl. Add ½ cup of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of sour cream, 1 minced garlic clove, and 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Stir until well blended, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and refrigerate.
  4. Rinse your mixed greens or romaine lettuce, and dry them thoroughly. Next, dice the tomatoes and cucumber, and thinly slice the red onion. Set all the vegetables aside.
  5. In the same skillet used for the onions, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium-high. Add the seasoned ground beef and cook for about 8-10 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  6. To create your Burger Bowls, start with a base of the crisp lettuce. Layer the cooked ground beef on top, followed by your prepared vegetables. Finish with a dollop of aioli, a sprinkle of shredded cheese, and chopped chives.
