Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, milk, and instant yeast, stirring gently. After 5 minutes, add sugar, salt, and flour. Mix until soft and elastic.
  2. If sticky, sprinkle more flour. Grease a bowl with butter, place dough inside, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  3. Punch risen dough down, divide into 6-7 portions, and roll each into an oval of 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F. Fry dough ovals for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden.
  5. Transfer to a wire rack to drain and brush with maple syrup glaze. Sprinkle powdered sugar before serving warm.
