Ingredients

For the Fries
  • 1 block Halloumi Cheese Substitute: Queso Blanco works well if you can't find halloumi.
  • 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour Substitute: Gluten-free flour is a great option for those avoiding gluten.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Note: Smoked paprika elevates the taste with its unique depth.
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Optional: Omit or swap with garlic powder for a different twist.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Note: Canola oil is a good alternative with a higher smoke point.
For Serving
  • 1/2 cup Sweet Chilli Sauce Substitute: Garlic aioli or tzatziki can add delicious variety.

Equipment

  • non-stick frying pan

Method

Halloumi Fries Instructions
  1. Begin by slicing the halloumi cheese into even-sized fries, aiming for approximately 1.5cm (½ inch) thick pieces.
  2. On a plate, combine the all-purpose flour, paprika, and cumin—mixing well to create an enticing spice blend.
  3. In a non-stick frying pan, pour enough olive oil to cover the bottom, heating it over medium heat for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Carefully place half of your coated halloumi fries into the hot oil, frying them for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Repeat the frying process with the remaining halloumi fries, ensuring the oil remains at the right temperature.
  6. Once all the crispy halloumi fries are fried to perfection, serve them right away while they're hot and crispy.

Notes

Enjoy halloumi fries fresh for the best flavor and texture; they don't reheat well without losing their delightful crispiness.
